Ask A Doula

What’s a doula?  What do they do?

My partner will be at the birth so I don’t need anyone, right?

I'm getting an epidural. Do I need a doula?

Is a postpartum doula different than a baby nurse?

Have you asked yourself any of these questions? If so, we’re here, with the experts and answers!

Join our own instructor/doula Maddy Wasserman as we spend the evening answering your questions about what doulas do and why they come so highly recommended at FPC.

Partners encouraged to join! ( No additional cost)

How to Avoid Unnecessary Interventions during Labor and Birth

Let's talk about your dream-birth! Does it include laboring at home for a long time, continuous support, a natural birth and/or possibly some pain medication, delayed cord clamping and skin-to-skin after birth? Your birth preferences may clash with the 30% c-section rate and 90% epidural rate in NYC- but fear not!

Led by “The New York Doula” Stephanie Heintzeler; German educated midwife and acupuncturist as well as US educated birth and postpartum doula, childbirth educator, CLC (Certified Lactation Counselor) and IBCLC (Lactation Consultant).

Come to this workshop to learn about hospital protocols and how to avoid unnecessary interventions. We will discuss the risks, benefits and alternatives of induction, breaking the waters, epidural, episiotomy and c-section.

Stop and think before an intervention is suggested and you will have a wonderful birth experience!

Strength in Community: FPC Workout + Conversation with Babu About Building a Postpartum Sanctuary

Motherhood is a time is like no other.  A new mom is experiencing major shifts in her body, her mind and her heart.  She is transitioning out of being pregnant, recovering from birth, navigating her relationship, bonding with and learning to care for a newborn and figuring out how to care for this new version of herself.  It can be sweet and peaceful, but is too often chaotic and overwhelming.  Even though our culture values “bouncing back” and doing it all on our own, the reality is that doing so can cause long term energy depletion and other challenging side effects.  Your community can help you plan for a joy-filled postpartum period and be right by your side during that sacred time.

Come join FPC and the Babu team for tips on how to build the right community and create a postpartum sanctuary in the midst of our busy city lives, so your family can get off to the very best start!

A portion of the proceeds will go to support Every Mother Counts!
