The Lowdown: Sex after baby

Let’s talk about sex!

Much of what we hear about sex in the peri- and post-natal periods has to do with "safety" and "positioning." However, there aren't many spaces where we can delve deep into our unique experiences, which include: feelings about our changing bodies, both lack of or increase in desire for our partners/others, physical exhaustion or pain, and giver-fatigue. Come join an interactive discussion to explore the science behind desire, identify the sexual challenges and opportunities associated with physical transformation, and leave with strategies for internal and relational reinvigoration.

Lia Avellino’s Bio:

Lia is a Columbia University trained relational therapist and the Director of Head and Heart at The Well, a science-backed ecosystem for wellness in the heart of NYC. She specializes in supporting individuals, couples and families navigate the unique challenges of modern life and love. Mindful Birth Prep

Mindful Birth Prep

Positions & Movement for the last weeks of pregnancy through the pushing stage of labor.

“Whenever and however you give birth, your experience will impact your emotions, your mind, your body, and your spirit for the rest of your life”- Ina May Gaskin

Join The Fit Doula, Maddy Wasserman in movement and education to promote the ideal positioning for your baby as you approach birth. Learn how to move when in labor to promote progress and find positions to help you during the pushing stage of labor. A woman’s body is wise and would never grow a baby “too big” for her to birth. However, if baby is in a non ideal position this can make birth more complicated. The movements you make leading up to birth and throughout are quintessential.

We will:

  • Practice techniques to tone and relax your pelvic floor in preparation for the pushing stage of labor.

  • Study the 3R’s: Relaxation, Rhythm & Ritual- By Penny Simpkin

  • Learn creative ways to use your birthing place and partner to support you best.

  • Tips for getting better sleep in late pregnancy.

  • Suggestions for comfort items and foods to bring to your birth place.

Partners are encouraged to join! (no additional cost) Wear comfortable clothes you can move in.

How to Avoid Unnecessary Interventions during Labor and Birth

Let's talk about your dream-birth! Does it include laboring at home for a long time, continuous support, a natural birth and/or possibly some pain medication, delayed cord clamping and skin-to-skin after birth? Your birth preferences may clash with the 30% c-section rate and 90% epidural rate in NYC- but fear not!

Led by “The New York Doula” Stephanie Heintzeler; German educated midwife and acupuncturist as well as US educated birth and postpartum doula, childbirth educator, CLC (Certified Lactation Counselor) and IBCLC (Lactation Consultant).

Come to this workshop to learn about hospital protocols and how to avoid unnecessary interventions. We will discuss the risks, benefits and alternatives of induction, breaking the waters, epidural, episiotomy and c-section.

Stop and think before an intervention is suggested and you will have a wonderful birth experience!
